Knoxville, TN Nitrous Oxide Sedation
At Beaver Creek Dental, Dr. Kyle Smith and our team make your comfort our priority. Our goal is for you and your family to have the best dental visit that you have ever had, hands down. We want to take the stress out of visiting the dentist!
We commonly use nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help patients of all ages relax. Nitrous oxide is that little extra “something” that will ensure you have a stress-free dental visit. It is safe, effective, and is out of your system within minutes of removing the mask, making it the perfect addition to your worry-free visit with us.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nitrous Oxide
What IS Nitrous?
Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. It is not intended to put you to sleep and only helps you to relax. You will be able to respond to any requests or directions that our team may give you, and you are completely alert throughout the procedure.
Is Nitrous Oxide Safe?
YES! Nitrous is safe for patients of all ages. There are very few medical conditions in which nitrous cannot be used but, just to be safe, we don’t use it on women who are or might be pregnant. Nitrous oxide does not have any ill-effects or long-term effects on the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or brain. Even patients with respiratory issues may be candidates for nitrous oxide sedation.
Can I Drive Myself?
One of the great things about nitrous oxide gas is that it’s out of your system within minutes of removing the mask, so you can absolutely drive yourself to your dental appointment. We only ask that you plan on spending a few extra moments of your time with us after your appointment, as we will have you breathe only oxygen for a few minutes before dismissing you.
Is It Affordable?
Fortunately, using nitrous oxide during your dental appointment won’t break the bank. Dr. Smith and our team want our patients to know that we are here to help, and this includes using flexible financing options to ensure that you get the care that you need in the environment that you deserve.
